i love summer! everything about summer....i love it! no coats, no school, just flip flops, swimming, and nice warm mornings and evenings for pictures! these 3 thought it was really funny to watch me make noises and jump up and down to take their pictures yet again....you kind of half to laugh at what we bribe our kids with for them to cooperate for pictures. these 3 got QT slushes and candy! it works.....almost always.

this teeny tiny little pink bundle fell fast asleep on this cozy little bed...we wanted to leave her there and let her sleep the day away.... oh, how i wish we could have. she was so cozy all nestled in her blanket. we took lots of cute pictures and ooooed and ahhed over her. so glad there are these beautiful babies being born during this cold winter. (spring is coming! i just know it!) and cannot wait!

one day before his big birthday.... he was just about to turn 3!!! and i could have just ate him up. ya know, we talked about big time stuff.... waffles, pizza, his dad's favorite color (pink), and all sorts of fun things. the entire time, he kept asking me "will you come play on my bed?" his mom and dad were laughing. he loves to play on his bed. soooooo what do ya do?... after we were done (really, look at that face!) why not? we jumped on his bed! too cute. good thing there are no pictures of that!

happy. oh, so happy. there were sooo many images from this session that a collage seemed like a great way to go! this will be a 16x20 gallery wrap canvas collage. typically, for a gallery wrap- you choose one picture- but we tried this awhile back and it looked fantastic! (now, i think i might have to get one... or 3). it is rainy here in KC today- photo sessions for today got cancelled... but the sun is supposed to shine for the Labor Day weekend. so, if you have a session- get ready for fun!

this big brother is almost officially a first grader. i found this picture from this summer and it is one of my favorites...maybe you had to be there...maybe you have to be here to know him... to see him... always watching, always caring, sharing his stuff with his little brother, showing him how to build stuff, how to wreck stuff, how to swim and swing a bat..... i sat back and watched- and listened to these 2. wow. lots of us around here will be missing him...but he is one excited soon-to-be first grader! what is he most excited about? (of course, i LOVED his answer) "ART!" he can't wait! this will be his first official "art class" in school in an art room he said. so fun!

this was so much fun! i got to spend the evening with a photographer friend of mine, Jenn and her amazing family! we had such a great time! she brought Charlotte (her beautiful yellow couch) along for our photo shoot- and wow- was i so glad she did. her sweet girls were super fun to photograph (and pros) and look at the adorable little guy! too cute! we were laughing alot, talking and trying not to boss dad around too much! ha ha. he was a huge help and a great sport!!! so glad i was able to spend time with all of you!

the 4th of JULY!!!! one of our favorite holidays around here... i love all the American flags and the traditions of our family every year... wearing our red, white and blue...getting ready for the parade.... decorating the scooters was a big hit this year...parading thru the neighborhood...and of course, the yummy (and messy) bomb pops! swimming and playing all day... and even a visit from Abraham Lincoln! summer seems to keep getting more and more fun each day! one month of summer still left! yippppeee!!!!

this storyboard is one of my favorites! this little guy is 2 years old... and too cute! it will have an inch and a half border around it- which i really like- so it looks like it is matted when it comes. lots of times, i will remove the glass from a standard 16x20 or 20x24 size frame and frame these without glass. they look really neat and the picture pops without glass. a more "artsy" feel than behind glass.

this is my very favorite picture from the day with this fantastic family! i love that both girls are barefoot and have great big smiles...yet in about 2 more seconds- they would be gone- off and running. i love that i didn't even tell mom and dad to kiss (and they are!!!) and that it just happened to be in the 2 seconds that the girls are sitting and were "catchable" on camera. it just happened to work- and i love that. best family pic of the day. (best family ever!) so fun!

seems like time is flying. do you ever feel like you know time is going to go fast and so you purposely relish the little things...yet, time still goes really fast? wow. guess that means one thing: we are getting old. baseball in the summer. this is a highlight at our house already. yowzers! and this little (he's still little to me) guy was so excited to put on the catching gear for his baseball game. very fun stuff that makes me love summer....

as one of my good friends would say.... "soooo, it's been a while." let's see...hmmmm... where to start? feeling a bit rusty on the writing, as i have been off the blogging world for a wee-bit too long. i am not pregnant... we are not moving to indonesia...my camera is not broken...my computer is not broken...my blog site is not dysfunctional... just busy. super-duper busy. like everybody. and the blog had to take a bit of a backseat for a bit. clients get there images fast though- just not a preview here for all to see. lots of cuties lots of you have missed. lots of yummy food... and LOTS of fun kid stuff!

i am booked for the remainder of 2009- kinda crazy! i have a waiting list and call clients on that list if openings pop up (which sometimes they do). holler now if you are wanting to get on the wait list for fall. and...i'll be back updating with sessions soon (sooner than later this time)!

today was it. around 4pm, the sun was shining and it was not near as cold as it has been- so this was our chance... 2 year old pictures. not planned usually works best at our house (i have learned- which is so hard for me, as i like to have pictures planned- ha!) to the closet. quick. to the backyard. it was easier to start with the soccer ball, football, basketball and even even the little tykes basketball goal. all of our favorite things since we have turned 2. (for 2 year old's it is hard to get them to stop- ever- if you have a chair or stool- take it). we play the "throw to ball to me game" as he sits on the chair or kicking works too. usually only works for about 10-12 seconds so get ready to snap quick!

then, what did he want to do the minute we got inside... brush his teeth! this is our other favorite thing to do! wonder how long this will last?

this little guy is growing up fast! and man, oh man is he cute! with these big blue eyes and fun blonde hair...whoo-eee. this is one of my very favoriate ages to photograph (and to parent)- 6 months old. can't beat it. they sit. smile. play. look at you. and smile some more. if you are wondering what age you have to get your child's pictures taken- this is it. 6 months- or whenever they just learn to sit all by themselves is soooo great. so far, this 6 month old has straight hair- but his older brother has a head full of curls... so stay tuned! we'll see what happens to all this great blonde stuff!

valentine's day...

it all started by playing library, one of our favorite games... at the bottom of the basket was a valentine's day book called "the biggest valentine ever." that was it. the afternoon took a turn for all hearts! red and pink... scissors and glitter. it was time to make the big mouse valentine (like in the book)... and i had just happened to have some cookies i grabbed at target this weekend- so it was perfect. "take a picture, mommy!" so we both took pictures today! just so excited with all this pink, glitter, and cookies! and now we have our first official valentine's decoration hanging up to begin our decorating:)

this sweet baby sister has no idea what fun is in store for her...she is going to have one, fun time with her older siblings as she gets bigger and bigger. (not to mention mom and dad)! wow- was this a fun session! we had music playing, dancing, jokes, interviews with a 4 year old (who wanted to have his interview done in silence-ha!) and also loves power rangers and a 7 year old who loves when they serve breakfast food for lunch at school. i could go on and on...it was a hoot and so much fun! toes and tummies, rolling all over as dad played dj in the dining room and kept the tunes a coming throughout our session so we had music to move to. fun, energetic and really- a super, fantastic family- this little baby girl has no idea just how lucky she is.

newest big sister decided she wanted to make her photographic debut doing what she does best...getting ready! no fake pretend play here. this was the real deal. full high power blow dryer (with mom sitting right there) she was blowing her hair away! and i learned a new trick on how to get a 2 year old girl to stay in one place! perfect:)

over the holidays, as i was driving home from Town Center Plaza, i saw this kiosk outside of some shops...it was fun to see the final advertising display for Houlihans from the photography work i had done earlier in the fall. it is an advertisement for the Snowball Flight of donuts and fudge and white chocloate dipping sauces at Houlihans. it is being offered now for a limited time only...along with The Ding Dong Martini. yummy!!! stop in to try it if you like donuts and martinis!

happy birthday!!! what a great way to start the new year- with a ONE year old birthday and a fantastic family. this was a hoot. this year, i have decided- along with photography- there should be someone to either come along and videotape the photo sessions or maybe a journalist tag along to get some great story ideas. we laughed alot during this one. kix cereal and the Christmas tree. sounds like a good combo. not so much. actually, i cannot wait to talk to this family when their pictures come in to hear how the story ended... the husband literally had to move (yes, lift and carry- the Christmas tree fully decorated over just a smidge- say... 7 or 8 feet) because soon the reality hit that the natural light we needed was- yep, you guessed it- right where the tree was. however- the CAKE- was a BIG hit! yowzers! did we all love the cake! smack dab on the floor, loving the cake. it really is alot of fun to be ONE! thanks for being such troopers!

this family surprises me- and i absolutely love it! this time, they were ready for a family football game.... with 3 boys...mom and dad? it quickly became a rivalry....gameplan and all. THIS is what i LOVE family photo sessions to be. unplanned. relaxed. and spur of the moment fun.

really won me over. i admit it. as many of you know, i get really, really excited about your pictures. sometimes, i have to think some of these husbands wonder how (and why?) this gal is so excited about pictures of our kids? it's true. i am.

and these 3. whoo-ee. i am not even sure where to start. if it were me, honestly- i would start with a HUGE canvas of these sisters. 2 canvases actually. one of the giggling...that one i can't get enough of. sisters. pure joy. simply the best. the other...the 2 of them smiling ear to ear....did i mention the 3rd canvas of the little man? i told the mom the day of the session, i have never photographed (or met) a more pleasant and loving hearted 2 year old. doo-dee-doo...he was so happy with his sisters. oooH! see? i love it. such great people...mom and dad literally sipped their morning coffee, sat on a bench at the park and let me play---PLAY--- with their kids. just be. ah!

and this was the first session that really felt like Christmas was in the air. it was a crisp morning...sweaters and jeans...coffee and hashbrowns (it made for happy kids, so it worked for me)... and we had a great time with these 2 boys. this fun mom and i used to teach together- and wow! does time fly. seems like we were just taking newborn pictures of this little guy and now look at his full head of hair! ONLY 53 DAYS 'TIL CHRISTMAS!!!!

this family is so great and these kids are alot of FUN! we played in the backyard with all sorts of things...roller skates, jump ropes, tire swings, tricycles, pogo sticks...even dropping hedge apples! you name it! and they played it. what a great morning just letting the kids play... relaxed and natural at home worked great with these 5!

this sweet doggie deserves a post all to herself...so here it is. i love the coloring of her fur and her deep brown eyes. dogs have a way (very similar to kids) of looking into the camera. it's pretty amazing. get your puppies and doggies ready for their photo session debuts in 2009... more details coming soon!

...i do love my job. and i will be the first to admit: i have been looking forward to this photo session for quite some time. this little gal is so much fun to be around. she is interesting to talk with, and that's what we do- we just talk, and take pictures, chat some more.... take more pictures. not to mention- her mom's laugh is contagious and truly one of the best laughs i have ever heard! every year i look forward to seeing this neat family. with easy-going dad, laughter of mom, and a daughter who loves to hang out... they make it easy to love my job. i am already looking forward to '09 to spend a morning with them again! thanks guys- i had alot of fun:)

halloween is one of my very favorite holidays! and going out to BOO! the neighbors is one of our favorite things to do...we gear up. first off, the bag. then, the message. our oldest son likes to give a hint somewhere on the BOO! package...next, the insides...candy, coloring pages, mazes, ring pops, pencils, stickers- anything! finally- the game plan.

this is the part the kids really love. (did i mention we are really into this?) we roll up all the windows and do a drive by of the prospective house first. fast. then, we park a few houses up and watch for a few minutes for "action" - that i am quoting- then, attack. i think the highlight right here really is no seatbelts. it's so funny. unbuckle and crouch down. then, hop out and RUN to the door. drop it. knock and RUN back. next year i am videotaping this of my oldest 2. heck, we might have to BOO! a few more neighbors just for videotape sake. watch out. we might BOO! you!

i love it. i saw this picture (of pictures- ha!) and had to post it from domino magazine (which now, yes- i just subscribed to because i keep finding really neat stuff i like from their website...like this pillow too! i will let you know whether it is worth $10/year)

i tried a similar style collage of some food photos i've taken with black trimmed frames for our kitchen... but this picture really WOWed me. i love it. seems cozy and warm. maybe it's the pictures, the white frames... the frames are from IKEA. what is so funny is they said they duck-taped the frames together on the back-side and then hung the pictures. hmmm. guess that makes more sense then how i did it. i have about, oh-- 5 holes for each one frame when i was trying to get them perfectly touching and straight. ducktape. good tip.

fall is a great time to collage pics. maybe of the kids in their halloween costumes from year's past... maybe pics of your favorite pumpkins...coffee...leaves? include the kids artwork too. very fun. off to find more space to frame stuff.

this "B" bunch is always fun to take out and shoot! cannot believe how fast time has gone by. little man was crawling all over the place! if you have a session coming up and are looking for what to wear... here you have it! these color combinations were perfect! with 3-4 kids sometimes it can be hard- this looks fabulous! a nice, bright and fun change to the white shirt and khaki pant look. yeah!!! we LOVE the color!!!

can a baby be this cute? i am not sure what to do. i am not supposed to be having this baby-itch anymore. nope. can't have it. and when i go see babies like this little guy...wow. it's unbelieveable. babies. they get to me. look at him! holy cow. these are some of my favorites from the session. and we had to snap a few of big brother... then, this last one of him and mom...ahhhh! you probably had to be there- but this one i don't think i will forget. this beautiful mom was holding him while he was going to sleep, then all of a sudden he just completely relaxed and plopped forward right into her... perfectly nestled in. just perfect.

these 2 are all boy... and it was fantastic! bringing in the fall weather with fun (and style). a few months back these 2 brothers were swinging away in the warm summer sun and we snapped some super fun shots of them then- and wow-look at them now! little guy was crawling and moving quick! we stopped for just a minute and sat together... this last image has a vintage frame around it - a fun way to add texture around any picture:) super fun family...almost caught dad dancing! maybe next time....

this little gal was full of fun! i just loved it. she was giggly, silly, and full of spunk! pretty much all i can ask for in a session. and wow- was i so excited to see these images. just for something new and fun... i absoluely LOVE LOVE LOVE the sun coming in from behind here. it creates this warmth around her and you can see the reflection. ooo-lah-lah (as her mom would say!) this family was a hoot and i enjoyed their company as much as i enjoyed their silly sounds and jokes! thanks for a super fun start to my day and all the flare!!!

it is more FUN turning one! this was a PARTY! presents, balloons, cousins, cake...and great-grandpa too! what a great family (full of Mizzou fans- watch out)!!! ha! this little guy loved his cake and almost ate every last piece...he did share a few bites with mom and dad. so much fun turning ONE! lots of fun to celebrate with this messy little guy!

wow! walking at ONE! i have seen this little gal and her big, beautiful, blue eyes several times over the last year- and now she is ONE! happy birthday!!! and she is walking! look at her go: ) then...it was cake time...the cutest baby einstein cake...but, guess what? (this is one good girl!) she wanted nothing to do with the cake. nothing. zip. zero . zilch. smart little gal- she'll be better for it in the long run- so mom and dad let me have a few bites of the delicious cake! and guess what made this little one sOOOOooOOOO happy? yep! her bottle! but, we all agreed- really cute (and scrumptous) cake!

to step out from behind the camera... ha. being the photographer, it seems like i am always the one behind the camera....so my photographer friend, jamie miller, and i swapped. i shot her family pictures and she took my family! what a deal! we had so much fun. it's always good to be reminded what it is like to run around getting shirts ironed, pigtails in, matching shoes on feet, kids fed- (i know you all are laughing)- but the morning of our "scheduled shoot" jeans were still in the dryer, shirts were not ironed, hairbows--- hmmm...what hairbows? gave up on those when we couldn't find 'em. but, i have to admit- once you get there- wow! is it FUN! we really laughed alot, jumped way too high, ran all around- and had a great time! below are a few i took of jamie's fantastic family!!! look at her cute kids! lots of fun!!!

this little gal could take on dora and her exploring skills. she was a hoot.. and so sweet. she giggled, laughed, bounced around full of joy- looking at sticks, bugs, spiders- pretty much anything she could find! we collected acorns, leaves-all kinds of things! what was so fun about her was she was a detailed explorer- paying close attention to the smallest drop of dew. i love that! simple and sweet. her polka dots were perfect and they look sooOO great in color and black and white! great colors for fall:) and gotta love those piggie tails. really- who doesn't love piggies? so much FUN!

when your morning starts out like this- you just know it is going to be an incredible day. great weather, super friends, happy, HAPPY kids...airplanes in the sky and trains passing by on the ground. really, what more could i ask for?

well...actually...this family is such a special family to us and i get really really excited to photograph them. however, there is "this one" in their bunch who always likes to mess with the photographer. so now...i have pictures from past years of "this one" standing as stiff as a statue as the rest of the family is playing... i have pictures of "this one" pretending to be gazing longingly into the blue sky right when everyone else is in that perfect playful moment... last year he was giving his wife bunny ears during the christmas picture photo session... hmmm... so, today--- i caught him. and i LOVE it. these pictures are too dang fun not to show all of you- (and they are our friends)... but i tell ya- trying to get "this one" to cooperate for pictures- quite the task! ha! and i have to somehow try to get him back for all the goofy faces he shoots at me- while i am behind my camera. thanks for a great start to my saturday:) gotcha!

i just finished reading the last lecture by randy pausch and just loved it. such an easy and enjoyable book to read- more like having a conversation (which is my type of book)...with so much valuable, useful, everyday applicable advice to live by. wow.

i could go on and on... but pictures like these above really remind me why pictures are so important... and he mentions something very similar to it on page 187 in his book as he is talking about emotional insurance for his kids (because he has cancer)...

"I need to spend hours making videotapes of myself with the kids, so they'll have a record of how we played and laughed. Years from now, they will be able to see the ease with which we touched each other and interacted."

this hit me. maybe as a mom. maybe as a wife. maybe as a photographer. maybe as all of those. pictures are a gift. i think it is so important to think about the gift of pictures--- and the interaction, smiles, laughter, and all those things that happen in that moment- which will never happen again exactly the same- and can be remembered for years and years to come....creating stories and building relationships... ***** (5 STARS) highly recommend the last lecture

have YOU ever eaten a chocolate cake off the floor? whether you are turning 1 or 71, i highly recommend this. seriously. looking back at this shoot- i still love it. we started with all the adorable tutu pics and then mom asks me, "so, where should we put the cake?" they had this perfect little wicker table- but mom and i knew the chocolate cake would never come out of all the crevices... so i say, "the floor would be great!" and mom goes, "OK, great!" without skipping a beat and no hesitation- the floor it was. and really- that is just what it was- great! so great!

this little gal was just eating away. smiling...making those mmmmm... sounds and all. we have to give her some real credit here. she ate for a good 10 minutes... then, it was time for a drink. so off she went.

she came back for more though.

then, patient (ever so patient) big brother was handed a silver spoon and told he could dig in too. (did i mention i LOVE this family?) as i am chatting with mom and packing up to leave, we turn around and this is what we see...

big brother and little sister sitting on the floor with the front door wide open eating chocolate cake off the floor. the best part: mom let them keep eating.

love the colors!!!

alright, alright... enough enough... i can hear the jokes from some of our KU friends already (jennifer & dave) the KU balloon is higher, we know... but it came back in 2nd...

the oldest balloon at the rally!

this was so neat. we were standing directly below the balloon. the kids were so excited to be right underneath a "real hot air balloon"... looks like a flower. they all had different shapes... i loved this one!

those of you that know me, know i love to go back to t-town every now and then to do things i did as a kid with my own kids...well, this one WOWS them all. huff-n-puff. yep! a hot air balloon ralley in topeka! it was soooOOOoooo much FUN! there were over 2 dozen hot air balloons that launched starting in the evening. it was fabulous! you could stand within 10 feet (or even closer) of the balloons and watch them take off. picnic dinners on blankets, bouncy houses and face painting for the kids, homemade sweet caramel popcorn...and lots and lots of enormous, colorful hot air balloons!!! definitely something to see!

kids painting. makes me so happy. i just love it. no lines to follow, no rules, no directions... a big plain piece of white paper and lots of colorful paints. i save almost everything my kids paint... for some reason it gets me more than anything they cut or glue...and this was the first time little guy really dove in. and wow- did he dive in...it made my day. a glimpse of his first masterpiece (which we will just have to frame) :)

a new baby sister...from one of the first families i photographed:) this time we went to their house and big brother started off the fun. first things first. he was talking on his (play) phone for quite some time. just jabbing away. walking up and down the stairs, talking about what seemed to be very important things. (however, every time i tried to click a picture of it- he was quick!) my favorite picture of her is the one above where she is looking right at the camera, on her back with her arms sprawled out! so cute! and- wow! does this family love the "Cubbies!" at the very end of our session, big brother and dad went and got their Cubbie gear on. the best was this little guy kept saying, "Dad! you have the biggest Cubbie!" and staring at the Dad's jersey! his eyes just LIT up! wow!

back to school... and this senior is going to have phenomenal pictures to be handing out to all her friends this year! wow. she really was amazing! senior pictures have changed so much since i was a senior (ha- okay, so it has been a few years!)... but, now-a-days it's creative and artsy...unique and fun...finding locations that reflect the personality of the senior. compositions and shots that come from the camera are individualized and thought about- not just aim and click anymore. thank goodness, right? these are FUN!

last night i went to one of the very BEST seminars/workshops i have been to! it was the free to succeed tour with david jay (wow- was he fabulous!) and one of my very favorite photographer's who's blog i read daily, jasmine star! i tried to take it all in and felt like there was so much to absorb. lots of the changes and amazing ideas i learned- all of you will start seeing soon...and even more in 2009!!! i cannot wait!
